The Surgery Center
The Surgery Center at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital performs more than 60 percent of its surgeries on an outpatient basis. Patients come to the hospital the morning of their surgery, receive pre-operative education, undergo surgery, recover from the anesthesia and leave later that same day to recuperate in the comfort of their own homes.
Procedures performed in The Surgery Center include:
- Ear, nose and throat
- Plastic surgery
- Laser surgery
- Robotic surgery
- Endoscopy procedures
Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery
Centra has been utilizing the state-of-the-art technology of minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate cancer treatment for the past five years. Now, this advanced technology is making great strides in gynecological surgeries, and Centra is at the forefront.
Minimally invasive robotic surgery is an innovative, minimally invasive robotic surgery that allows your surgeon to perform a more precise operation and enables you to recover faster and get back to enjoying your life. Minimally invasive robotic surgery integrates 3D, high-definition laparoscopy and robotic technology to virtually extend the surgeon's eyes and hands into the surgical field. The system provides surgeons greater than twice the viewing resolution and 20 percent more viewing area.
With the help of minimally invasive robotic surgery, doctors are able to better treat conditions such as:
- Prostate cancer
- Cervical and uterine cancer
- Uterine fibroids
- Uterine prolapse
